I think it’ll give fans a better opportunity to see new places or places that PSU has rarely played at (like Nebraska). That’s also part of the reason why I like that PSU does not have any protected rivals in the Big Ten. But, from a competitive standpoint, I certainly understand it.
FACILITY SCHEDULER SERIES
Franklin has mentioned the SEC playing nonconference games late in the year and he made it very clear after throttling Auburn last year that such a series wouldn’t happen again anytime soon.įor fans who want to experience some of these awesome college football venues and see your team play elsewhere, it stinks. But, the big-time nonconference road trips like ones to Alabama and Auburn or the daydreaming about PSU- Notre Dame are sadly a thing of the past.Įverything is geared toward easing into the season with easier nonconference games while a competitive conference schedule awaits.
FACILITY SCHEDULER FULL
With the additions of USC and UCLA, there are still going to be plenty of marquee games every year - and the 2024 home schedule is full of them with Ohio State and USC highlighting it. As much fun as regional games like Virginia Tech and Pitt would be, it’s not going to happen. In 2025 it’s Nevada and Villanova while Marshall, Temple and Buffalo are in line for 2026 and Syracuse in 2027. In 2024 it’s at West Virginia, Bowling Green and Kent State. This year’s nonconference schedule includes West Virginia, Delaware and UMass. It’ll be put up and taken down every year but will provide more indoor training space for the Olympic sports teams, thus freeing up Holuba Hall more often. Part-way through the season if you’re in the stadium and look out beyond the parking lots and toward the soccer stadium you should be able to see the indoor practice air-supported structure that was also approved this spring. Obviously, this venture won’t impact most fans, but I do wonder if we’ll catch glimpses of it on TV this fall or if it’ll lead to any interesting interactions when James Franklin walks by the large viewing window or when recruits are led through on their way to and from the field pregame. It was one of athletic director Pat Kraft’s first ideas when he was checking out the stadium. Membership to the tunnel club includes other perks like food and Wifi, but it’s one way PSU is trying to generate more revenue. For $10,000 per year, fans can stand in an event-level space in the tunnel where they can watch the team go to and from the field. The tunnel club, which is separate from the stadium renovation, is slated to open this fall. However, there will be at least one noticeable change that I’m curious to see this fall.
